Dental Problems

Orofacial dysfunction can lead to and exacerbate many different dental issues. Some of these common problems are as follows:

· Orthodontic concerns: relapse, open bite, cross bite, over bite, over jet, crowding, gummy smile

· Broken teeth from bruxism (clenching/grinding)

· Sensitive teeth from bruxism (clenching/grinding)

· Exacerbation of periodontal disease (bone/gum loss)

· Dry mouth from mouth breathing

· Significantly increased cavity risk (dry mouth, less food clearance ability, increased acidity)

· Recession related to bruxism and/or tethered oral tissues (tongue/lip/cheek tie)

· Narrow palate

· Malformed facial structures

· Excessive gag reflex sensitivity

OMT can help re-train appropriate function, which may alleviate and eliminate many of the common dental problems related to orofacial dysfunction.
